Awesome Quotes

The extent to which you can recall and feel what you went through in the past is the extent to which you will be able to offer yourself and make a difference in the world. The more you remember and feel your experiences, the better you will relate to others. — Chris Hilicki

About

Josh Collins

My name is Josh and I’m an Architect.

But I don’t design houses or beautiful buildings or even great monuments.

I design Experiences.

But not just your ordinary experiences.

I design Awesome Experiences.

That’s why I’m an Experience Architect.

Welcome to Creating the Awesome!

I have spent the majority of my life surrounded by some of the worlds greatest artists, entertainers, story tellers, communicators and leaders. And one of the most important things I’ve learned a long the way is that everything creates an experience and everything is about the experience! You see, wrapped up in one seemingly innocuous experience, like a tiny mustard seed, rests the power to change the world. Have you ever participated or been involved with something and walked away feeling like that was one of the best experiences of your life? Well, I help make those happen. It’s what I love. It’s what I do. It’s a part of who I am.

Creating the Awesome’s focus and mission is to help you create awesome experiences, no matter what they may look like, not simply connecting with your audience but engaging the awesome audience that has given you permission to impact them.

I write on community, the church, experience, leadership, and worship. Occasionally, I write about something that doesn’t fit in one those neat little categories, but ultimately everything I write about is focused on the building blocks that create and enable us to impact and change our world by the experiences we design and share with one another.

If you have a passion to change the world and engage audiences with your gifts then this site is for you!

I typically post about two to three times a week. To make sure you don’t miss out on all the awesome content, subscribe to my newsletter via email in the box below or via rss.

Who is the.josh.collins?

I was born in Nashville, grew up in Houston, spent a little bit of time in Las Vegas, and then have settled down back in Nash-Vegas ever since. There simply aren’t enough adjectives to describe the woman I’m lucky to still be able to call my wife, Mary. Together, we’ve been blessed with 3 awesome kids, Molly Ryan, Joshua Riley, and Jonas Wilder. One day we hope to own a golden doodle and call her Lucy or Daisy or something like that.

I have spent the last 15 years traveling all over the world with all kinds of artists, and entertainers, speakers, and leaders. I have witnessed some of the most beautiful venues, stages, and churches helping create some of the most amazing experiences on the planet. And its been, well, honestly, pretty awesome!

I’ll briefly share a few of them with you.

Walking into the Abuja airport in Nigeria, with bags full of cash to hand to the armed guards holding AK-47′s, at the gate, just trying to get out of the country.  Oh, there’s so much more to that story, but yeah that was something kind of like awesome. Then of course there was the actual Usher concert we did in Abuja. I guess that qualifies as awesome.

Then immediately coming home from that and beginning to plan, design, and execute a historic music and fashion show with Jay-Z and John Legend at the Kennedy Center in D.C. That most certainly was not only awesome but ridiculously beautiful too!

And then there was mixing Stevie Wonder, who should be, in anyone’s mind, one of the greatest musical talents of all time, in front of, close to what seemed like 100,000 people, including the royal family, in the desert of Morocco. All the while, witnessing extravagant worship taking place, knowing what’s really happening is that the sacred space in all of us, that God created, was being touched. That was awesome!

Touring with all these artists and countless others has no doubt been awesome, but I’ve always hated two questions in life. The first is “What do you do?” and the second is “What do you want to do?” My answer to the first always, without fail, leads to a process by which the person asking, begins to put me into one of their neat little boxes. And while there isn’t anything necessarily wrong with that, it’s just what naturally happens when we try to understand something we don’t really understand. The problem for me, though, has been it ultimately led me to be marginalized.

My answer to the second question is equally hard because I’ve never really had a great answer. Well, now that’s not completely true. My answer, to be brutally honest with you, is the only answer any of us should ever have to that question. It’s just not the answer people want to hear, when they ask it, and that is what has kept me enslaved for most of my life.

These days you’ll find me being present, loving my family, communicating, or partnering in relationship with others to create awesome experiences that will change, redeem, and impact our world!

Feel free to stop by my speaking and consulting page to learn more and engage with me about how we can align with one another in Creating the Awesome!

Oh and by the way if you really want to know the answer to that second question, head on over to my contactpage and give me a shout!
